Rebekah’s Gift of Hospitality

WHAT I LEARNED WHEN I READ THE BIBLE I love the first glimpse of Rebekah at the well, who was chosen to be Isaac’s wife. She has the gift of hospitality! (Genesis 24:15-25). She not only gave water to Abraham’s servant who had traveled to seek her out, but she watered the camels and told the men traveling that there was room for them to spend the night. You can sense the exuberance in her as she is portrayed as working quickly and energetically running around.

God gives each of us different gifts, and we are to use them to serve others. The gift of hospitality is mentioned several times in the Bible. “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (I Peter 4:9-10 NIV).
