WHAT I LEARNED WHEN I READ THE BIBLE God offers us so much more than we could dream of asking. A life lived God’s way is better than a life lived our way. I love a good party. I might ask God to fulfill my dreams of a big event with beautifully designed paper plates and cleverly crafted plastic cups.
Sometimes God gives us what we ask for, and He will even come along to enjoy the event with us. But if we had followed God’s will, our paper-plate party would have, instead, been an event with the finest porcelain plates, beautiful crystal, and cascading roses. No expense spared! God’s way is always better than our way, even when we do not realize it at the time.
When we are willing to give up control and follow Him, we quickly learn He never disappoints. The servant in Genesis 24 relied on God, not man, to find Isaac a wife, and God answered in a way much greater than the servant could fathom. Rebekah was beautiful, energetic, hospitable, and faithful. God always answers our prayers. Sometimes it is no. Sometimes it is wait, but often He answers with blessings too great to comprehend. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” (Ephesians 3:20 NIV).
