Men & Women Represent God's Traits

WHAT I LEARNED WHEN I READ THE BIBLE

God created everything. The birds, the cows, even our favorite 4-legged friends, the dogs. He created the trees and sky, the stars, moon, and sun. But there is only one creation He modeled after Himself: man. “When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created.” (Genesis 5:2 NIV). “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27 NIV/emphasis mine).

Both men and women have the imprint of God’s image on our souls. How can this be? Men and women are different from each other in so many ways. Yes, we are, but together we represent the complete image of God. God is a warrior, a fighter. He is strong and mighty. He is also compassionate, merciful, and tender. Men and women have all God’s traits, but some characteristics might be more pronounced in one person and less visible in another. You might have a woman who is gentler in personality, or you might have a woman with more of a fighter’s heart. The same goes with men. God uses His traits differently in each person to accomplish His will for our lives. But regardless of the varying degrees of strength of the different parts of God’s image we possess, when man and woman come together, they represent the wholeness of God. We are ALL made in God’s image.
