Q: As a guest to a party, what food should I bring?
A: It is nice to offer help to the hostess by bringing food, but if she declines, honor her request. If you bring something anyway, she will feel obligated to serve your item. This might mess up her overall meal plan. If she accepts your request, and says, “I’d love if you could bring a dessert.” Then, give her a few options that you are comfortable making. Let her make the choice. Do not feel obligated to make something you do not know how to make. Bottom line only bring food if the hostess accepts your request. If she says, “No thank you,” then maybe bring a hostess gift that is a little more special to thank her for the wonderful evening you are about to experience.
