I learned sin causes us to lie and become defensive. This is the conversation between God and Cain after Cain killed his brother, Abel. “Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Where is your brother Abel?’ ‘I don’t know (lie),’ he replied. ‘Am I my brother’s keeper (defensive)?’” (Genesis 4:9 NIV emphasis mine).
