The Meaning of Christmas Box

When our son was little, he painted a treasure chest that held the Meaning of Christmas. This box sat in the middle of our table during the big family meal. The box was locked, and the key hung somewhere on the tree. First, our son had to find the key. Once found, he could unlock the box. Inside were tiny ornaments representing the manger scene and a small, wrapped gift. Before our son could claim the gift, my husband held up each trinket, and our son told us how each item fit into the Christmas story. As my husband held each item, he would ask our son, “Is this the meaning of Christmas?” In an exaggerated voice he would proclaim, “NO!!!” The second to last ornament held up was baby Jesus in the manger. Often our guests thought our son would say this was the meaning of Christmas, but again he said, “NO!!” The last item pulled out of the box was a cross. “Is this the meaning of Christmas,” my husband would say. Our son replied, “YES! Because the whole reason Jesus had to be born was so He could die.” Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
