Only Noah Remained

Updated: Mar 22, 2021

WHAT I LEARNED WHEN I READ THE BIBLE

I learned God wiped the earth clean during the great flood. No living creature, except Noah and his family, were left alive. And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind. Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark.” (Genesis 7:21-24 ESV).

I have often wondered, if every living creature was wiped from the earth, then why did sin continue? The answer: Although Noah was found righteous, all men are born with a sin-nature. We are all descendants of Noah and his sons, and the flaws of Adam and Eve that were committed in the Garden of Eden still passed through the lineage of Noah. Our inability to live perfect lives is what points us to the realization that we need a Savior. All throughout the Bible, from the very beginning in Genesis, God revealed to us that we cannot do this on our own. If we could save ourselves, then Jesus died in vain.
