Have you ever wondered what makes happy people truly happy? How can some people have such a positive outlook when it seems like we have a daily barrage of negativity surrounding us? This 7-part blog series (a summary report from The Law of Happiness by Dr. Henry Cloud) will focus on how we, too, can achieve happiness. My desire is that you internalize what we learn, and then take that knowledge to teach your family the truth behind happiness. For this introduction post, I will briefly focus on one point.
God tells us throughout the Bible that the Engaged Life is the Good Life. He tells us to do whatever we do with our whole heart. We have all participated in activities where time just seems to fly by, because we are having so much fun. We have also experienced the reverse of this where every minute seems like an hour. When we “buy into” an activity, when we put our whole heart into something, when we are fully engaged in what we are doing then time flies, and we experience happiness. 1 Chronicles 28:9 says, “And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion…”
The Bible says throughout we are to live with our “whole heart.” This means to be fully engaged in whatever God has put before us. We all know people that just go through the motions of life, whether it be in their volunteer work, in their marriage or just in their daily lives. These people are not fully engaged. They are not invested, which ultimately means they are not happy people.
As the author of The Law of Happiness, Dr. Henry Cloud, states, “There is only one way to live life if you are going to be happy: totally in, totally engaged.” I hope you will join me in this 7-part blog series as we explore what Dr. Cloud teaches us is the true path to happiness.
Together with you,
Lisa Lou
